![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mikey Tom and Jimmy Patterson. Both have recently picked up paddleboarding and enjoy the workout it gives them to stay in shape for surfing. This evening's paddle was a little different from yesterday when a fogbank engulfed us in the late afternoon while a couple of miles offshore and we ended up having to follow the swell in to find our way back. Visibility was about 20 feet and even when we finally hit the beach, we were about a mile south of our intended landing. Careful out there. ![]() This post could be a little dated since the event happened in late September, but still an interesting read from Dan Gavere at Werner Paddles who placed second in his first long distance race. First race of the SoCalOceanRacing series kicks off on November 8th in beautiful La Jolla Shores Kellogg Park.
Details on the www.eteamz.com/SoCalOceanRacing website under News. We are trying out active.com as an on-line pre registration option this year. Feedback on that is welcome. Looking forward to seeing a lot of new faces as we embrace the newly educated women who attended the clinic last weekend, AND the booming sport of stand-up paddling! Word is that over 250 paddlers stood up, surfed, and paddled a race in Dana mid-month! Wow- that’s fantastic! Im hoping to see a lot more of that group participate in our winter racing series. The movie documents the attempt to paddle the Florida Straits between Florida and Cuba on paddleboards. It will be shown at the Orlando Film Festival at 12 pm on 11/9/08. City Arts Factory 29 S. Orange Avenue @ Pine. Q+A session will follow. Below is a rundown of the film. Ernest Hemingway penned the phrase “Big Blue River” while writing about the Gulfstream, a violent stretch of cobalt current that runs the Florida Straits between Florida and Cuba. In late June 14 world-class paddlers attempted to cross the 112 miles, using only their arms to propel their 18-foot paddleboards.
