Three French women to paddleboard across the Atlantic
From the Nova Scotia Chronicle Herald

The French lifeguard says she did not realize the enormity of her upcoming adventure until she found her starting point in Cape Breton.

What do you do if the surf is small?
If you're Andrew Logreco, you drag a quiver of boards down to the water and see how many you can ride during a one hour session. Andrew rode a total of five different boards with legitimate waves caught on each one. Other than a way to entertain yourself, this was a good overall workout between the waves ridden, paddling back out, and running up the beach to change boards. Here is a sample of one hour with Andrew Logreco..

Andrew warms up with a few laps on a 10'6" sprint board

Most people ride a 10'6" on their knees, but there's nothing wrong with catching a few on your feet..

Paddlers for Humanity

In 2005, a few strong-willed paddling enthusiasts gathered together and made a decision to challenge themselves and to enhance the lives of numerous people who would benefit from their hard work and good will. The paddlers determined that they would raise money for a charity by paddling from the Montauk Lighthouse to Block Island, a distance of 18 miles. The paddlers went through rigorous training and directly solicited donations from their friends and families. The 17 kayakers, standup, and prone paddle boarders raised an impressive $90,000.

Following this, the founders decided to make the paddle an annual event. The 2006 paddle was equally successful. In 2007, a 9-mile paddle was added allowing for more casual participants, increased awareness and the opportunity to raise more funds. The two 2007 paddles raised $117,000.

The paddles have generated nearly $300,000, an inspiring amount ...

The Shimmering Island
Fall has well stamped its arrival, and winter is at the threshold in California. The unlimiteds are up in the rafters, and Molokai and Classic singlets hang at the back of the rack. Contests and crossings have run their course, and talk of escort boats and Gu packs have faded to silence. We wake to brisk offshore sunrises, when the notion of leaving the house for the morning's visit to the Pacific wearing only board shorts is unthinkable. Coffee in hand, we descend in fleece and beanies upon parking lots, cliffs, trails and dunes to inspect what Neptune has on offer for us, and we are not thinking of paddleboarding.
Each winter though, strong Santa Ana's clear the throat of one very vocal paddling proponent - Catalina Island. Cut from the horizon in front-lit gold, Catalina's silhouette draws near to our coastline, clearly beckoning both the uninitiated and ...

Voting Day
Hopefully everyone is out voting for their preferred candidate. If you live in the San Diego area, maybe vote no on paddling or any other ocean related activity today. The area's first major (1/16 of an inch?) rain sent a nice brown soup down the storm gutters and out towards the surf. Might want to stay out for a few days and let it dissipate.
