Outrigger/OC-1Seattle, WA -Seattle Outrigger Canoe ClubIn Seattle, canoe paddlers have the opportunity to enjoy the surrounding of unique waterways such as Lake Washington and the Puget Sound. In the Pacific Northwest, teams in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia compete frequently during the spring and summer and gradually start traveling to meet their California and Pacific Island competitors as the season progresses. SOCC paddlers practice three times a week from April through October as daylight permits. Did you say you wanted to try something new this year? Spend it with us on the water! Members have varying levels of experience, so there's a boat for everyone You might say that Kahakai is like one big family! People who have never paddled before are encouraged to come out and give it a try. Beginners are very much welcomed, and have a racing class all to themselves --don't worry, we won't start you out competing against the Hercules and the Argonauts. Waikiki Beach, Oahu -Waikiki Beachboys ClubThe Waikiki BeachBoys Canoe Club (WBBCC) was formed in 1973 by a group of Waikiki Beach Boys that all had a similar vision but paddled for different clubs. They decided to come together to form a club that would promote the image of the original Waikiki Beach Boys… men who respected the ocean and mastered the skills of surfing and outrigger canoe paddling, while spreading the spirit of Aloha. WBBCC continues to promote the image of the original Waikiki Beach Boys and the spirit of Aloha through its paddling events and its members. A number of the members still work the beaches of Waikiki and some are employed as lifeguards and firemen, patrolling the shores of Hawaii, making the waters safe and enjoyable for residents and tourists. Open/Rough Water SwimPleasanton, CA -Shadow Cliffs Open Water Aquatic Team (SOWAT)If you are interested in open water swimming with a group, SOWAT is available year round. Shadow Cliffs is an East Bay Regional Park located in Pleasanton, California. The facility is actually a small lake that was once a quarry. The group is friendly and flexible. There is no coaching or training, just open water swimming.
Avila Beach, CA -Avila DolphinsSundays at 1:00 PM, year round, a group of swimmers will be entering the ocean at Avila Beach, California. We call ourselves the “Avila Dolphins” and welcome other ocean swim enthusiasts. Around mid-day Sunday we relax on the beach on the east side of the Avila Pier. In bad weather there will be just a few swimmers. During the beautiful summer there may be a couple dozen ocean swimmers of varying ability and speed. Each week we choose a different swim course based on the interest and ability of that day’s swimmers. The Sunday swim is not a race - the Avila Dolphins are for support and friendship. Some swimmers wear wetsuits, some don’t. Water temperature at Avila Beach varies from a low of 51 degrees in the spring to a high of 62 degrees in the late summer. For more information on the Avila Dolphins go to www.avilaswimming.com La Jolla, CA -La Jolla Cove Swim ClubLa Jolla Cove and the bay between the Cove and La Jolla Shores is one of the best places in the world for ocean swimming. It is the home of the La Jolla Cove Swim Club. The club is an informal organization of (mostly) friendly people who like to swim in the ocean. The club has no regular meetings but tries to sponsor an activity approximately once a month. The larger events are the Polar Bear Swim on New Year’s Day, the “CYA Across the Bay” Swim (1.5 mile) in late June, and the Tour of Buoys (5 mile and 1.5 mile) in early August. The club also supports, but does not sponsor, the La Jolla Rough Water Swim on the second Sunday in September. This includes one mile and 3 mile races for adults and a 250 yard race for children. Multi-SportsSan Francisco, CA -San Francisco Dolphin Swimming and Boating ClubWhether you yearn to swim the Golden Gate, aspire to conquer the English Channel, or simply love paddling around in cold water, you’ll feel at home at the Dolphin Club. Our members swim year-round in the waters of Aquatic Park, where temperatures vary from about 50 F in January to about 61 F in September (unless El Nino warms things up!). A line of buoys parallel to the shore marks a quarter-mile course; you may also swim anywhere else inside the pier and breakwater that you feel comfortable. San Francisco, CA -South End Rowing ClubOur history begins in 1873 and continues to be made by members who break records and take on ever more daring feats. The South End Rowing Club of San Francisco is an institution in our city. We are oldest of the clubs founded solely for the purpose of rowing.
