Years Paddling: 22 

Weekly Mileage:
Zero to what ever it takes.
 
Preferred board length to paddle:
Bark 12' and Bennett 10'6" 

Favorite Paddle route:
Capitola to Sewer Peak on the inside so I can check the surf, then return on the outside of  the kelp beds and enjoy the downwind runners. I then surf some waves before I go in. About 5 miles.  

Favorite race:
Jay Race  

I Started Paddling Because:
In 1986 I was a rookie lifeguard with State Parks. I was "encouraged" to do run-swim-paddles for my workout break. I began to love the paddleboard. I then started doing some lifeguard comps in Southern California. I was hooked!

Preferred board length to paddle:
14’

Favorite Paddle route:
I like vacation paddles in new places.  La Bufadora in Baja was pretty cool.  I’m going to focus on paddleboard traveling in the coming years.

Favorite race:
Loop race.  I love that the finish and start are across the street from each other!

I Started Paddling Because:
I have raced nearly every other kind of watercraft and still wanted to get closer to the water (without actually having to swim in it—ugh).  I saw Kelly Brown paddleboarding at an outrigger race and thought…yeah, THAT’S IT!  He told me to call Joe Bark and I was on my pink board a month later, loving it.

Winter – whenever the sun creeps out and skiing is no good. Summer – 10-20 kilometers (we’re metric up here).

16ft custom wooden board

Second beach reef at Stanley Park

Favorite race:
Being chased by an agro male sea lion.

I Started Paddling Because:
It make me feel like I’ve just gone surfing.

Best Paddling Experience to Date:
Setting off for a five-day, 100km trip with a custom built wooden board that is stuffed with all your own camping gear.

Favorite Thing About Paddling:
Getting to hang with seals and all the other crazy wildlife in the Pacific Northwest.

Thing I Hate Most About Paddling:
Cold winter water ...
