Jay Moriarity

This week's featured paddler is Jay Moriarity, a legendary surfer/waterman who left us way too soon. Kim,
his wife, was nice enough to fill out the questions on his behalf and with the Jay Race coming up on June 13th,
it seemed appropriate to post this now in honor of Jay.

LEGEND, I wish I could have paddled with him.

Jay was a combination Laird Hamilton and the Dalai Lama. A truly unique, incredible person. And, yeah it's true he loved to share waves. No disrespect intended to the original slogan, but - Jay would let you go. How many Mavs titles would Jay have today? Would he have won his own race? Semifinals at his last Mavs comp, and a lot of people say he should have made the finals, he got fourth behind Flea, Slater, and RCJ. Flea won, but look back at that heat and you'll see a hard charging stoked out grommet who could have won that thing. Much love to Kim and to Jay up there in Waterworld.

Thanks for making Jay the featured paddler! Seems he should be the featured paddler annually during the week of his race... Buell - well put. I think Jay wins his own race every year as he looks down and sees his friends and everyone out on the water together, paddling in his honor... and having a blast!

Yeah Jay! He always puts on a show for us during the race each year. We have seen it all: sketchy fog, a torrential lightning storm, heat, and pumping surf. But most of all, this race brings out pure stoke in everyone! One of the best races in the state!

Thanks to all for all the nice comments about Jay. I hate to brag about my son, but he was definitely special. I wish we could all Live Like Jay. I was hoping to make the race, but wasn't able. I hope all went really well.
