Molokai 2025

Updated: Oct 30

The week leading up to Molokai, you could almost feel the pre race jitters hanging in the air. With the best of the best in the sport arriving from all corners of the world, the anticipation was tangible. Forecasts were being checked religiously, boards getting some last minute downwind miles, and paddlers were crusing around in packs, getting runs in, testing each other on the water, and taking advantage of the Foodland poke bar.

Light, 12 knot wind didn't give the paddlers the bumps they wished for. It was a hot, grindy race with a good bump section in the beginning of the race with a little direction switch by the end.

The Unlimited Division was packed- with last year's champ Charlie Verco, last year's Stock Champ Lachie Lansdown, last year's Catalina Champ Jack Bark, and Cam Guthrie all going head to head. The boys took off from the start, with Charlie pushing the pace on the rest of them. Cam Guthrie followed and close behind him was Jack Bark.

Lachie struggled early and let the top 3 go for now. Charlie put a bit of a gap on Cam and Jack and that was about it. Jack responded and dropped Cam but couldn't pull back much on the now 3x champ Charlie Verco. Cam went further South and Lachie found a second wind making the race for 3rd super tight at the wall (within 50 meters). However Cam Guthrie held off his co-worker Lachie and claimed 3rd.

In the Stock Divisoin we saw Harrison Stone go full sprint off the start - the young bucks Toa Pere and Ethan Storey battled hard to keep Harry close. They all stayed pretty tight, Harrison pulled away while Toa and Ethan continued the battle for second. Toa made a push near the end and was only 50 meters behind Harry as they approached the wall. Harry held his lead and Toa claimed 2nd. Ethan Storey was close for 3rd and is another name to remember in the years to come.

The Women's Divison was once again dominated by Katrina Madill. This gal from New Zealand took off at a blistering pace and held the lead the whole way. The pack behind her was trading off positions- we saw Liz Hunter and Emily Bark exchange places until Liz held the lead, with Happy Sager, Jazmin Graham, and Allie Schilinger nearby early on in the race.. Emily claimed the 2nd place position in the last few miles and Liz took third.

Huge to see the next generation firing on all cylinders... Happy Sager became the youngest woman to cross the channel at 14. We are seeing Toa Pere, 16, rise in the ranks with every race he finishes. Ethan Storey- also 16, Lucas Forbes, 18, and a whole lot of young gals in the Women's Division.
