If you grew up in the South Bay, you're probably familiar with the R-10 race, even if you don't know much about the prone paddle world. It's one of the few races that really does attract more than the "serious" paddlers: beginners, the fair-weather paddlers, surfers, and the guys who have a dusty board in their side yard. People racing it now grew up watching their parents do it, or are still racing it from about 20 years ago. It's pretty cool to see how the local South Bay community helps keep the sport growing as this race becomes a tradition of sorts, with parents passing it down through generations.
Step in to the past with us with some archival photos from past R-10s and from this year's race.
Same crew, same place, 25 years later.
The Gair family - like mother like daughter. The Gair Family is a staple in the paddle community, with Tim holding the Catalina Classic Unlimited record for the past 25 years. This year we got to see both of his daughters compete in the race.
Jeff Stoner followed by Beau Brown leading the pack in '99 - Jack Bark takes it in 2024.
Joe and Emily Bark. The Bark kids grew up watching their dad race, and this year he watched them race from his boat.
Matt Walls paddling, and now hosting the race.
Mel and Anneliese Solberg
Mike and Hogan Inscore
The boys are stoked!

Raffle prizes are still the same- a Bark Board
Some things never change. And we don't really want them to. See you all next year, and the year after.
