Today was a great way to shake off some off-season rust and get back into the action.
The Adler Paddler, benefitting the John Ritter Foundation, had a pretty good turnout this morning. About 50 prones participated in the long course- a 5.8 mile double lap around Naples Island in Long Beach. Often spotted in the front of the pack, Zach Jirkovsky topped the UL men’s category with 53:13. Sean Reseigh took first 14 footer in 59:43, while Chance Villari finished as the first 12' with a time of 01:02:23. Emily Bark came in as the first female 14', in 1:05:02, followed by Alice Toth in the Women's 14' class. Jenni Watten led the 12' women’s category with a time of 1:33:43. Pretty neat to see a good turnout in the short course as well, from beginners to father/daughter combos and more. Races like this are so key in getting new paddlers into the sport, and seeing many new faces today confirmed that. With the Malibu Downwinder filling up quick and Waterman's full, looks like we might see record numbers this summer.
We have a feeling this is going to be a really good California season. Next up: The Lifeguard Lap.
