The Rock2Rock started up about 25 years ago, started by shaper Joe Bark. It changed hands a few times, and is now run by the South Bay Boardriders. This race is the perfect distance for Catalina Classic training, allows for relay teams, and from a logistical standpoint, is simple enough for a channel crossing since paddlers have the option to share boats with other participants.
Father son duo- Bill and Colin MacLeod
In the same spirit as the R-10 race- this event carries a sense of tradition but also informality. To some, it's a rite of passage- crossing the channel once. To others, it's just a warm-up for the big one. And then, there are always the guys doing it on one of the relay teams, after being convinced by their buddies to join in after too many beers the week before.
Geoffrey Page leading the charge right out of the gates
Congratulations to Geoffrey Page for his first place win- this guy is a legend. It was exciting to watch the two Seans battle it out, with Sean Jasso coming out ahead of Sean Reseigh as 1st 14'. Donald Miralle claimed the Men's Stock title, and Emily Bark came in as the first woman to cross the finish line.
Left, Sean Jasso. Right, Sean Reseigh
This race is a staple in the South Bay, and we hope to see the field grow and get more competitive next year.
