There was a pretty stacked lineup of paddlers at Waterman's, with a maximum of 100 competitors registered and many others showing up, hoping to get off the waitlist.
Lance Lerum walked away with first place, crossing the finish line in 2:23:51. Rob Parucha was close on his tail, coming in less than 20 seconds behind Lance at 2:24:09. Tristan Sullaway claimed third place, clocking in at 2:26:26.
Deon Lourens led the 14' division at 2:45:22, followed by Tomas Hinds at 2:46:28 and Sean Jasso at 2:46:48.
It was a close race for stock, with all three top competitors coming into the finish within the same minute. Foster Campbell claimed the lead at 2:47:32, with Greg Ford close behind at 4:47:41. Oliver Levine secured third place shortly after, with a time of 02:47:48.
To no one's surprise, Liz Hunter crushed the womens division, coming in at a ripping 2:52:02. Following her was Jasmine Stiles at 3:04:20 and Cassia Cole at 3:09:47.
After a few different podiums throughout the season in the Unlimited division, it's going to be an exciting race to watch come August 25th. We saw Lance Lerum finish 1st at the Loop, then 3rd at the South Bay Paddle, then 1st again here at Waterman's. Rob has remained a consistent high finisher, along with Tristan Sullaway and Zach Jirkovsky. Jack Bark has been at only a few races this year, but placed first both at the R-10 race and Davenport. Max First is obviously a top pick for 1st, with 5 wins under his belt. It's going to be a close race.
Foster consistently has been placing high at the races this season, so he is definitely a top stock competitor to watch. Miles Miller has also been showing up with some high finishes and wins under his belt. Davy Thomas of the South Bay has also climbed the ranks after his first Classic last year, coming in first at El Morro this year. We also will be watching some hammers like Donald Miralle and Lockwood Holmes.
And of course, Liz has won every race she has entered this year. This year could very likely be her 5th first place finish, cementing her already-earned title as Queen of the Channel. However, there are some new girls joining the ranks this year who could give Liz a run for her money- notably lifeguard Sydney Brouwer who has been racing fast and placing high this season.
